1As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool.

2As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless alighteth not.

3A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of fools.

4Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him.

5Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit.

6He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool Cutteth off `his own' feet, `and' drinketh in damage.

7The legs of the lame hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

8As one that bindeth a stone in a sling, So is he that giveth honor to a fool.

9`As' a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

10`As' an archer that woundeth all, So is he that hireth a fool and he that hireth them that pass by.

11As a dog that returneth to his vomit, `So is' a fool that repeateth his folly.

12Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

13The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.

14`As' the door turneth upon its hinges, So doth the sluggard upon his bed.

15The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.

16The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men that can render a reason.

17He that passeth by, `and' vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, Is `like' one that taketh a dog by the ears.

18As a madman who casteth firebrands, Arrows, and death,

19So is the man that deceiveth his neighbor, And saith, Am not I in sport?

20For lack of wood the fire goeth out; And where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.

21`As' coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to inflame strife.

22The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.

23Fervent lips and a wicked heart Are `like' an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.

24He that hateth dissembleth with his lips; But he layeth up deceit within him:

25When he speaketh fair, believe him not; For there are seven abominations in his heart:

26Though `his' hatred cover itself with guile, His wickedness shall be openly showed before the assembly.

27Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; And he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.

28A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

1미련한 자에게는 영예가 적당하지 아니하니 마치 여름에 눈 오는 것과 추수 때에 비 오는 것 같으니라

2까닭 없는 저주는 참새가 떠도는 것과 제비가 날아가는 것 같이 이루어지지 아니하느니라

3말에게는 채찍이요 나귀에게는 재갈이요 미련한 자의 등에는 막대기니라

4미련한 자의 어리석은 것을 따라 대답하지 말라 두렵건대 너도 그와 같을까 하노라

5미련한 자에게는 그의 어리석음을 따라 대답하라 두렵건대 그가 스스로 지혜롭게 여길까 하노라

6미련한 자 편에 기별하는 것은 자기의 발을 베어 버림과 해를 받음과 같으니라

7저는 자의 다리는 힘 없이 달렸나니 미련한 자의 입의 잠언도 그러하니라

8미련한 자에게 영예를 주는 것은 돌을 물매에 매는 것과 같으니라

9미련한 자의 입의 잠언은 술 취한 자가 손에 든 가시나무 같으니라

10장인이 온갖 것을 만들지라도 미련한 자를 고용하는 것은 지나가는 행인을 고용함과 같으니라

11개가 그 토한 것을 도로 먹는 것 같이 미련한 자는 그 미련한 것을 거듭 행하느니라

12네가 스스로 지혜롭게 여기는 자를 보느냐 그보다 미련한 자에게 오히려 희망이 있느니라

13게으른 자는 길에 사자가 있다 거리에 사자가 있다 하느니라

14문짝이 돌쩌귀를 따라서 도는 것 같이 게으른 자는 침상에서 도느니라

15게으른 자는 그 손을 그릇에 넣고도 입으로 올리기를 괴로워하느니라

16게으른 자는 사리에 맞게 대답하는 사람 일곱보다 자기를 지혜롭게 여기느니라

17길로 지나가다가 자기와 상관 없는 다툼을 간섭하는 자는 개의 귀를 잡는 자와 같으니라

18횃불을 던지며 화살을 쏘아서 사람을 죽이는 미친 사람이 있나니

19자기의 이웃을 속이고 말하기를 내가 희롱하였노라 하는 자도 그러하니라

20나무가 다하면 불이 꺼지고 말쟁이가 없어지면 다툼이 쉬느니라

21숯불 위에 숯을 더하는 것과 타는 불에 나무를 더하는 것 같이 다툼을 좋아하는 자는 시비를 일으키느니라

22남의 말 하기를 좋아하는 자의 말은 별식과 같아서 뱃속 깊은 데로 내려가느니라

23온유한 입술에 악한 마음은 낮은 은을 입힌 토기니라

24원수는 입술로는 꾸미고 속으로는 속임을 품나니

25그 말이 좋을지라도 믿지 말 것은 그 마음에 일곱 가지 가증한 것이 있음이니라

26속임으로 그 미움을 감출지라도 그의 악이 회중 앞에 드러나리라

27함정을 파는 자는 그것에 빠질 것이요 돌을 굴리는 자는 도리어 그것에 치이리라

28거짓말 하는 자는 자기가 해한 자를 미워하고 아첨하는 입은 패망을 일으키느니라

1When Jehovah brought back those that returned to Zion, We were like unto them that dream.

2Then was our mouth filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing: Then said they among the nations, Jehovah hath done great things for them.

3Jehovah hath done great things for us, `Whereof' we are glad.

4Turn again our captivity, O Jehovah, As the streams in the South.

5They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

6He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with joy, bringing his sheaves `with him'. Psalm 127 A Song of Ascents; of Solomon.

1여호와께서 시온의 포로를 돌려 보내실 때에 우리는 꿈꾸는 것 같았도다

2그 때에 우리 입에는 웃음이 가득하고 우리 혀에는 찬양이 찼었도다 그 때에 뭇 나라 가운데에서 말하기를 여호와께서 그들을 위하여 큰 일을 행하셨다 하였도다

3여호와께서 우리를 위하여 큰 일을 행하셨으니 우리는 기쁘도다

4여호와여 우리의 포로를 남방 시내들 같이 돌려 보내소서

5눈물을 흘리며 씨를 뿌리는 자는 기쁨으로 거두리로다

6울며 씨를 뿌리러 나가는 자는 반드시 기쁨으로 그 곡식 단을 가지고 돌아오리로다

1Except Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.

2It is vain for you to rise up early, To take rest late, To eat the bread of toil; `For' so he giveth unto his beloved sleep.

3Lo, children are a heritage of Jehovah; `And' the fruit of the womb is `his' reward.

4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth.

5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be put to shame, When they speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 128 A Song of Ascents.

1여호와께서 집을 세우지 아니하시면 세우는 자의 수고가 헛되며 여호와께서 성을 지키지 아니하시면 파수꾼의 깨어 있음이 헛되도다

2너희가 일찍이 일어나고 늦게 누우며 수고의 떡을 먹음이 헛되도다 그러므로 여호와께서 그의 사랑하시는 자에게는 잠을 주시는도다

3보라 자식들은 여호와의 기업이요 태의 열매는 그의 상급이로다

4젊은 자의 자식은 장사의 수중의 화살 같으니

5이것이 그의 화살통에 가득한 자는 복되도다 그들이 성문에서 그들의 원수와 담판할 때에 수치를 당하지 아니하리로다

1Blessed is every one that feareth Jehovah, That walketh in his ways.

2For thou shalt eat the labor of thy hands: Happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

3Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine, In the innermost parts of thy house; Thy children like olive plants, Round about thy table.

4Behold, thus shall the man be blessed That feareth Jehovah.

5Jehovah bless thee out of Zion: And see thou the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

1여호와를 경외하며 그의 길을 걷는 자마다 복이 있도다

2네가 네 손이 수고한 대로 먹을 것이라 네가 복되고 형통하리로다

3네 질 안방에 있는 네 아내는 결실한 포도나무 같으며 네 식탁에 둘러 앉은 자식들은 어린 감람나무 같으리로다

4여호와를 경외하는 자는 이같이 복을 얻으리로다

5여호와께서 시온에서 네게 복을 주실지어다 너는 평생에 예루살렘의 번영을 보며

6네 자식의 자식을 볼지어다 이스라엘에게 평강이 있을지로다

1Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up, Let Israel now say,

4Jehovah is righteous: He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

7Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand, Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.

1이스라엘은 이제 말하기를 그들이 내가 어릴 때부터 여러 번 나를 괴롭혔도다

2그들이 내가 어릴 때부터 여러 번 나를 괴롭혔으나 나를 이기지 못하였도다

3밭 가는 자들이 내 등을 갈아 그 고랑을 길게 지었도다

4여호와께서는 의로우사 악인들의 줄을 끊으셨도다

5무릇 시온을 미워하는 자들은 수치를 당하여 물러갈지어다

6그들은 지붕의 풀과 같을지어다 그것은 자라기 전에 마르는 것이라

7이런 것은 베는 자의 손과 묶는 자의 품에 차지 아니하나니

8지나가는 자들도 여호와의 복이 너희에게 있을지어다 하거나 우리가 여호와의 이름으로 너희에게 축복한다 하지 아니하느니라

1Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Jehovah.

2Lord, hear my voice: Let thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.

3If thou, Jehovah, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

4But there is forgiveness with thee, That thou mayest be feared.

5I wait for Jehovah, my soul doth wait, And in his word do I hope.

6My soul `waiteth' for the Lord More than watchmen `wait' for the morning; `Yea, more than' watchmen for the morning.

7O Israel, hope in Jehovah; For with Jehovah there is lovingkindness, And with him is plenteous redemption.

8And he will redeem Israel From all his iniquities. Psalm 131 A Song of Ascents; of David.

1여호와여 내가 깊은 곳에서 주께 부르짖었나이다

2주여 내 소리를 들으시며 나의 부르짖는 소리에 귀를 기울이소서

3여호와여 주께서 죄악을 지켜보실진대 주여 누가 서리이까

4그러나 사유하심이 주께 있음은 주를 경외하게 하심이니이다

5나 곧 내 영혼은 여호와를 기다리며 나는 주의 말씀을 바라는도다

6파수꾼이 아침을 기다림보다 내 영혼이 주를 더 기다리나니 참으로 파수꾼이 아침을 기다림보다 더하도다

7이스라엘아 여호와를 바랄지어다 여호와께서는 인자하심과 풍성한 속량이 있음이라

8그가 이스라엘을 그의 모든 죄악에서 속량하시리로다
