5Who hath sent out the wild ass free? Or who hath loosed the bonds of the swift ass,
6Whose home I have made the wilderness, And the salt land his dwelling-place?
7He scorneth the tumult of the city, Neither heareth he the shoutings of the driver.
8The range of the mountains is his pasture, And he searcheth after every green thing.
9Will the wild-ox be content to serve thee? Or will he abide by thy crib?
10Canst thou bind the wild-ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? Or wilt thou leave to him thy labor?
12Wilt thou confide in him, that he will bring home thy seed, And gather `the grain' of thy threshing-floor?
13The wings of the ostrich wave proudly; `But' are they the pinions and plumage of love?
14For she leaveth her eggs on the earth, And warmeth them in the dust,
15And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, Or that the wild beast may trample them.
16She dealeth hardly with her young ones, as if they were not hers: Though her labor be in vain, `she is' without fear;
17Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, Neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18What time she lifteth up herself on high, She scorneth the horse and his rider.
19Hast thou given the horse `his' might? Hast thou clothed his neck with the quivering mane?
20Hast thou made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is terrible.
21He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: He goeth out to meet the armed men.
22He mocketh at fear, and is not dismayed; Neither turneth he back from the sword.
23The quiver rattleth against him, The flashing spear and the javelin.
24He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage; Neither believeth he that it is the voice of the trumpet.
25As oft as the trumpet `soundeth' he saith, Aha! And he smelleth the battle afar off, The thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26Is it by thy wisdom that the hawk soareth, (And) stretcheth her wings toward the south?
27Is it at thy command that the eagle mounteth up, And maketh her nest on high?
28On the cliff she dwelleth, and maketh her home, Upon the point of the cliff, and the stronghold.
29From thence she spieth out the prey; Her eyes behold it afar off.
30Her young ones also suck up blood: And where the slain are, there is she.
In a world that constantly demands more — more productivity, more achievement, more anxiety — Psalm 23 speaks a radical word of rest. The shepherd does not drive the sheep; he leads them. There is a profound difference between a God who demands and a God who guides. Today, where do you need to let the Shepherd lead you into rest?
Prayer · 기도
Lord, help me to trust you as my shepherd today. In the places where I feel lack, remind me of your abundance. In the moments of striving, call me back to rest in you. Amen.

1As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool.
2As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless alighteth not.
3A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of fools.
4Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him.
5Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool Cutteth off `his own' feet, `and' drinketh in damage.
7The legs of the lame hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8As one that bindeth a stone in a sling, So is he that giveth honor to a fool.
9`As' a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10`As' an archer that woundeth all, So is he that hireth a fool and he that hireth them that pass by.
11As a dog that returneth to his vomit, `So is' a fool that repeateth his folly.
12Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
13The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.
14`As' the door turneth upon its hinges, So doth the sluggard upon his bed.
15The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men that can render a reason.
17He that passeth by, `and' vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, Is `like' one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18As a madman who casteth firebrands, Arrows, and death,
19So is the man that deceiveth his neighbor, And saith, Am not I in sport?
20For lack of wood the fire goeth out; And where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
21`As' coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to inflame strife.
22The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.
23Fervent lips and a wicked heart Are `like' an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
24He that hateth dissembleth with his lips; But he layeth up deceit within him:
25When he speaketh fair, believe him not; For there are seven abominations in his heart:
26Though `his' hatred cover itself with guile, His wickedness shall be openly showed before the assembly.
27Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; And he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
28A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
Today's Psalms ·
1When Jehovah brought back those that returned to Zion, We were like unto them that dream.
2Then was our mouth filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing: Then said they among the nations, Jehovah hath done great things for them.
3Jehovah hath done great things for us, `Whereof' we are glad.
4Turn again our captivity, O Jehovah, As the streams in the South.
5They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with joy, bringing his sheaves `with him'. Psalm 127 A Song of Ascents; of Solomon.
1Except Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.
2It is vain for you to rise up early, To take rest late, To eat the bread of toil; `For' so he giveth unto his beloved sleep.
3Lo, children are a heritage of Jehovah; `And' the fruit of the womb is `his' reward.
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth.
5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be put to shame, When they speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 128 A Song of Ascents.
1Blessed is every one that feareth Jehovah, That walketh in his ways.
2For thou shalt eat the labor of thy hands: Happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
3Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine, In the innermost parts of thy house; Thy children like olive plants, Round about thy table.
4Behold, thus shall the man be blessed That feareth Jehovah.
5Jehovah bless thee out of Zion: And see thou the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
6Yea, see thou thy children's children. Peace be upon Israel. Psalm 129 A Song of Ascents.
1Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up, Let Israel now say,
2Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up: Yet they have not prevailed against me.
3The plowers plowed upon my back; They made long their furrows.
4Jehovah is righteous: He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
5Let them be put to shame and turned backward, All they that hate Zion.
6Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, Which withereth before it groweth up;
7Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand, Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.
8Neither do they that go by say, The blessing of Jehovah be upon you; We bless you in the name of Jehovah. Psalm 130 A Song of Ascents.
1Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Jehovah.
2Lord, hear my voice: Let thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.
3If thou, Jehovah, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
4But there is forgiveness with thee, That thou mayest be feared.
5I wait for Jehovah, my soul doth wait, And in his word do I hope.
6My soul `waiteth' for the Lord More than watchmen `wait' for the morning; `Yea, more than' watchmen for the morning.
7O Israel, hope in Jehovah; For with Jehovah there is lovingkindness, And with him is plenteous redemption.
8And he will redeem Israel From all his iniquities. Psalm 131 A Song of Ascents; of David.
