12Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lehem-judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken `in years' among men.
13And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
14And David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul.
15Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Beth-lehem.
16And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry `them' quickly to the camp to thy brethren;
18and bring these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.
19Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the vale of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
20And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the place of the wagons, as the host which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
21And Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
22And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
23And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.
24And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
25And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
26And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
27And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
12다윗은 유다 베들레헴 에브랏 사람 이새라 하는 사람의 아들이었는데 이새는 사울 당시 사람 중에 나이가 많아 늙은 사람으로서 여덟 아들이 있는 중
13그 장성한 세 아들은 사울을 따라 싸움에 나갔으니 싸움에 나간 세 아들의 이름은 장자 엘리압이요 그 다음은 아비나답이요 셋째는 삼마며
14다윗은 막내라 장성한 세 사람은 사울을 따랐고
15다윗은 사울에게로 왕래하며 베들레헴에서 그의 아버지의 양을 칠 때에
16그 블레셋 사람이 사십 일을 조석으로 나와서 몸을 나타내었더라
17이새가 그의 아들 다윗에게 이르되 지금 네 형들을 위하여 이 볶은 곡식 한 에바와 이 떡 열 덩이를 가지고 진영으로 속히 가서 네 형들에게 주고
18이 치즈 열 덩이를 가져다가 그들의 천부장에게 주고 네 형들의 안부를 살피고 증표를 가져 오라
19그 때에 사울과 그들과 이스라엘 모든 사람들은 엘라 골짜기에서 블레셋 사람들과 싸우는 중이더라
20다윗이 아침에 일찍이 일어나서 양을 양 지키는 자에게 맡기고 이새가 명령한 대로 가지고 가서 진영에 이른즉 마침 군대가 전장에 나와서 싸우려고 고함치며,
21이스라엘과 블레셋 사람들이 전열을 벌이고 양군이 서로 대치하였더라
22다윗이 자기의 짐을 짐 지키는 자의 손에 맡기고 군대로 달려가서 형들에게 문안하고
23그들과 함께 말할 때에 마침 블레셋 사람의 싸움 돋우는 가드 사람 골리앗이라 하는 자가 그 전열에서 나와서 전과 같은 말을 하매 다윗이 들으니라
24이스라엘 모든 사람이 그 사람을 보고 심히 두려워하여 그 앞에서 도망하며
25이스라엘 사람들이 이르되 너희가 이 올라 온 사람을 보았느냐 참으로 이스라엘을 모욕하러 왔도다 그를 죽이는 사람은 왕이 많은 재물로 부하게 하고 그의 딸을 그에게 주고 그 아버지의 집을 이스라엘 중에서 세금을 면제하게 하시리라
26다윗이 곁에 서 있는 사람들에게 말하여 이르되 이 블레셋 사람을 죽여 이스라엘의 치욕을 제거하는 사람에게는 어떠한 대우를 하겠느냐 이 할례 받지 않은 블레셋 사람이 누구이기에 살아계시는 하나님의 군대를 모욕하겠느냐
27백성이 전과 같이 말하여 이르되 그를 죽이는 사람에게는 이러이러하게 하시리라 하니라
In a world that constantly demands more — more productivity, more achievement, more anxiety — Psalm 23 speaks a radical word of rest. The shepherd does not drive the sheep; he leads them. There is a profound difference between a God who demands and a God who guides. Today, where do you need to let the Shepherd lead you into rest?

1These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
3As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, So the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4Take away the dross from the silver, And there cometh forth a vessel for the refiner:
5Take away the wicked `from' before the king, And his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, And stand not in the place of great men:
7For better is it that it be said unto thee, Come up hither, Than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince, Whom thine eyes have seen.
8Go not forth hastily to strive, Lest `thou know not' what to do in the end thereof, When thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.
9Debate thy cause with thy neighbor `himself', And disclose not the secret of another;

17Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbor's house, Lest he be weary of thee, and hate thee.
18A man that beareth false witness against his neighbor Is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble Is `like' a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20`As' one that taketh off a garment in cold weather, `and as' vinegar upon soda, So is he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
21If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22For thou wilt heap coals of fire upon his head, And Jehovah will reward thee.
23The north wind bringeth forth rain: So doth a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.
24It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, Than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
25`As' cold waters to a thirsty soul, So is good news from a far country.
26`As' a troubled fountain, and a corrupted spring, `So is' a righteous man that giveth way before the wicked.
27It is not good to eat much honey: So `for men' to search out their own glory is grievous.
28He whose spirit is without restraint Is `like' a city that is broken down and without walls.
1이것도 솔로몬의 잠언이요 유다 왕 히스기야의 신하들이 편집한 것이니라
2일을 숨기는 것은 하나님의 영화요 일을 살피는 것은 왕의 영화니라
3하늘의 높음과 땅의 깊음 같이 왕의 마음은 헤아릴 수 없느니라
4은에서 찌꺼기를 제하라 그리하면 장색의 쓸 만한 그릇이 나올 것이요
5왕 앞에서 악한 자를 제하라 그리하면 그의 왕위가 의로 말이암아 견고히 서리라
6왕 앞에서 스스로 높은 체하지 말며 대인들의 자리에 서지 말라
7이는 사람이 네게 이리로 올라 오라고 말하는 것이 네 눈에 보이는 귀인 앞에서 저리로 내려 가라고 말하는 것보다 나음이니라
8너는 서둘러 나가서 다투지 말라 마침내 네가 이웃에게서 욕을 보게 될 때에 네가 어찌할 줄을 알지 못할까 두려우니라
9너는 이웃과 다투거든 변론만 하고 남의 은밀한 일은 누설하지 말라
10듣는 자가 너를 꾸짖을 터이요 또 네게 대한 악평이 네게서 떠나지 아니할까 두려우니라
11경우에 합당한 말은 아로새긴 은 쟁반에 금 사과니라
12슬기로운 자의 책망은 청종하는 귀에 금 고리와 정금 장식이니라
13충성된 사자는 그를 보낸 이에게 마치 추수하는 날에 얼음 냉수 같아서 능히 그 주인의 마음을 시원하게 하느니라
14선물한다고 거짓 자랑하는 자는 비 없는 구름과 바람 같으니라
15오래 참으면 관원도 설득할 수 있나니 부드러운 혀는 뼈를 꺾느니라
16너는 꿀을 보거든 족하리만큼 먹으라 과식함으로 토할까 두려우니라
17너는 이웃집에 자주 다니지 말라 그가 너를 싫어하며 미워할까 두려우니라
18자기의 이웃을 쳐서 거짓 증거 하는 사람은 방망이요 칼이요 뾰족한 화살이니라
19환난 날에 진실하지 못한 자를 의뢰하는 것은 부러진 이와 위골된 발 같으니라
20마음이 상한 자에게 노래하는 것은 추운 날에 옷을 벗음 같고 소다 위에 식초를 부음 같으니라
21네 원수가 배고파하거든 음식을 먹이고 목말라하거든 물을 마시게 하라
22그리 하는 것은 핀 숯을 그의 머리에 놓는 것과 일반이요 여호와께서 네게 갚아 주시리라
23북풍이 비를 일으킴 같이 참소하는 혀는 사람의 얼굴에 분을 일으키느니라
24다투는 여인과 함께 큰 집에서 사는 것보다 움막에서 혼자 사는 것이 나으니라
25먼 땅에서 오는 좋은 기별은 목마른 사람에게 냉수와 같으니라
26의인이 악인 앞에 굴복하는 것은 우물이 흐려짐과 샘이 더러워짐과 같으니라
27꿀을 많이 먹는 것이 좋지 못하고 자기의 영예를 구하는 것이 헛되니라
28자기의 마음을 제어하지 아니하는 자는 성읍이 무너지고 성벽이 없는 것과 같으니라
