1And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third `month', in the first `day' of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
2Son of man, say unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude: Whom art thou like in thy greatness?
3Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a forest-like shade, and of high stature; and its top was among the thick boughs.
4The waters nourished it, the deep made it to grow: the rivers thereof ran round about its plantation; and it sent out its channels unto all the trees of the field.
5Therefore its stature was exalted above all the trees of the field; and its boughs were multiplied, and its branches became long by reason of many waters, when it shot `them' forth.
6All the birds of the heavens made their nests in its boughs; and under its branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young; and under its shadow dwelt all great nations.
7Thus was it fair in its greatness, in the length of its branches; for its root was by many waters.
8The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; the fir-trees were not like its boughs, and the plane-trees were not as its branches; nor was any tree in the garden of God like unto it in its beauty.
9I made it fair by the multitude of its branches, so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied it.
10Therefore thus said the Lord Jehovah: Because thou art exalted in stature, and he hath set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
11I will even deliver him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with him; I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the watercourses of the land; and all the peoples of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
13Upon his ruin all the birds of the heavens shall dwell, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches;
14to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, neither set their top among the thick boughs, nor that their mighty ones stand up on their height, `even' all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
15Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In the day when he went down to Sheol I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the rivers thereof; and the great waters were stayed; and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
16I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to Sheol with them that descend into the pit; and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether parts of the earth.
17They also went down into Sheol with him unto them that are slain by the sword; yea, they that were his arm, `that' dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the nations.
18To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord Jehovah.
1열한째 해 셋째 달 초하루에 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되
2인자야 너는 애굽의 바로 왕과 그 무리에게 이르기를 네 큰 위엄을 누구에게 비하랴
3볼지어다 앗수르 사람은 가지가 아름답고 그늘은 숲의 그늘 같으며 키가 크고 꼭대기가 구름에 닿은 레바논 백향목이었느니라
4물들이 그것을 기르며 깊은 물이 그것을 자라게 하며 강들이 그 심어진 곳을 둘러 흐르며 둑의 물이 들의 모든 나무에까지 미치매
5그 나무가 물이 많으므로 키가 들의 모든 나무보다 크며 굵은 가지가 번성하며 가는 가지가 길게 뻗어 나갔고
6공중의 모든 새가 그 큰 가지에 깃들이며 들의 모든 짐승이 그 가는 가지 밑에 새끼를 낳으며 모든 큰 나라가 그 그늘 아래에 거주하였느니라
7그 뿌리가 큰 물가에 있으므로 그 나무가 크고 가지가 길어 모양이 아름다우매
8하나님의 동산의 백향목이 능히 그를 가리지 못하며 잣나무가 그 굵은 가지만 모하며 단풍나무가 그 가는 가지만 못하며 하나님의 동산의 어떤 나무도 그 아름다운 모양과 같지 못하였도다
9내가 그 가지를 많게 하여 모양이 아름답게 하였더니 하나님의 동산 에덴에 있는 모든 나무가 다 시기하였느니라
10그러므로 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 그의 키가 크고 꼭대기가 구름에 닿아서 높이 솟아났으므로 마음이 교만하였은즉
11내가 여러 나라의 능한 자의 손에 넘겨줄지라 그가 임의로 대우할 것은 내가 그의 악으로 말미암아 쫓아내었음이라
12여러 나라의 포악한 다른 민족이 그를 찍어 버렸으므로 그 가는 가지가 산과 모든 골짜기에 떨어졌고 그 굵은 가지가 그 땅 모든 물 가에 꺾어졌으며 세상 모든 백성이 그를 버리고 그 그늘 아래에서 떠나매
13공중의 모든 새가 그 넘어진 나무에 거주하며 들의 모든 짐승이 그 가지에 있으리니
14이는 물 가에 있는 모든 나무는 키가 크다고 교만하지 못하게 하며 그 꼭대기가 구름에 닿지 못하게 하며 또 물을 마시는 모든 나무가 스스로 높아 서지 못하게 함이니 그들을 다 죽음에 넘겨 주어 사람들 가운데에서 구덩이로 내려가는 자와 함께 지하로 내려가게 하였음이라
15주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 그가 스올에 내려가던 날에 내가 그를 위하여 슬프게 울게 하며 깊은 바다를 덮으며 모든 강을 쉬게 하며 큰 물을 그치게 하고 레바논이 그를 위하여 슬프게 울게 하며 들의 모든 나무를 그로 말미암아 쇠잔하게 하였느니라
16내가 그를 구덩이에 내려가는 자와 함께 스올에 떨어뜨리던 때에 백성들이 그 떨어지는 소리로 말미암아 진동하게 하였고 물을 마시는 에덴의 모든 나무 곧 레바논의 뛰어나고 아름다운 나무들이 지하에서 위로를 받게 하였느니라
17그러나 그들도 그와 함께 스올에 내려 칼에 죽임을 당한 자에게 이르렀나니 그들은 옛적에 그의 팔이 된 자요 나라들 가운데에서 그 그늘 아래에 거주하던 자니라
18너의 영광과 위대함이 에덴의 나무들 중에서 어떤 것과 같은고 그러나 네가 에덴의 나무들과 함께 지하에 내려갈 것이요 거기에서 할례를 받지 못하고 칼에 죽임을 당한 자 가운데에 누우리라 이들은 바로와 그의 모든 군대니라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 하라
Lord, strip away the pride that seeks recognition and applause. Teach me not to measure myself by worldly standards of success or strength. Remind me that apart from You I have nothing to boast about. Let my confidence rest not in my abilities, but in Christ alone — Your wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. Make my life point not to myself, but to You.
주님, 인정과 칭찬을 받고자 하는 교만을 제 안에서 벗겨 주옵소서. 세상의 성공과 힘의 기준으로 저 자신을 판단하지 않도록 가르쳐 주소서. 주님 없이 저는 아무것도 자랑할 것이 없음을 늘 기억하게 하소서. 제 능력이 아니라, 하나님의 지혜와 의로움과 거룩함과 구속이 되시는 오직 그리스도 안에 제 확신을 두게 하소서. 제 삶이 저 자신이 아니라 오직 주님을 가리키게 하옵소서.
Prayer · 기도
God, I reflect on what it is that I am truly boasting about. Please forgive the vain desires and foolishness in me that seek to glorify my flesh. Before You, who choose the weak to shame the strong, grant me a humble heart. Help me to live boasting only in Christ, who is the wisdom and power of God.
하나님, 저는 과연 무엇을 자랑하고 있는지 돌아봅니다. 제 육체를 뽐내려는 헛된 욕심과 어리석음을 용서해 주소서. 약한 자를 택하셔서 강한 자를 부끄럽게 하시는 하나님 앞에서 겸손한 마음을 갖게 하시고, 하나님의 지혜와 능력인 그리스도만 자랑하며 살아가게 하소서.

잠언 26장
1As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool.
2As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless alighteth not.
3A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of fools.
4Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him.
5Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool Cutteth off `his own' feet, `and' drinketh in damage.
7The legs of the lame hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8As one that bindeth a stone in a sling, So is he that giveth honor to a fool.
9`As' a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10`As' an archer that woundeth all, So is he that hireth a fool and he that hireth them that pass by.
11As a dog that returneth to his vomit, `So is' a fool that repeateth his folly.
12Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
13The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.
14`As' the door turneth upon its hinges, So doth the sluggard upon his bed.
15The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men that can render a reason.
17He that passeth by, `and' vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, Is `like' one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18As a madman who casteth firebrands, Arrows, and death,
19So is the man that deceiveth his neighbor, And saith, Am not I in sport?
20For lack of wood the fire goeth out; And where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
21`As' coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to inflame strife.
22The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.
23Fervent lips and a wicked heart Are `like' an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
24He that hateth dissembleth with his lips; But he layeth up deceit within him:
25When he speaketh fair, believe him not; For there are seven abominations in his heart:
26Though `his' hatred cover itself with guile, His wickedness shall be openly showed before the assembly.
27Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; And he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
28A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
1미련한 자에게는 영예가 적당하지 아니하니 마치 여름에 눈 오는 것과 추수 때에 비오는 것 같으니라
2까닭 없는 저주는 참새가 떠도는 것과 제비가 날아가는 것 같이 이루어지지 아니하느니라
3말에게는 채찍이요 나귀에게는 재갈이요 미련한 자의 등에는 막대기니라
4미련한 자의 어리석은 것을 따라 대답하지 말라 두렵건대 너도 그와 같을까 하노라
5미련한 자에게는 그의 어리석음을 따라 대답하라 두렵건대 그가 스스로 지혜롭게 여길까 하노라
6미련한 자 편에 기별하는 것은 자기의 발을 베어 버림과 해를 받음과 같으니라
7저는 자의 다리는 힘 없이 달렸나니 미련한 자의 입의 잠언도 그러하니라
8미련한 자에게 영예를 주는 것은 돌을 물매에 매는 것과 같으니라
9미련한 자의 입의 잠언은 술 취한 자가 손에 든 가시나무 같으니라
10장인이 온갖 것을 만들지라도 미련한 자를 고용하는 것은 지나가는 행인을 고용함과 같으니라
11개가 그 토한 것을 도로 먹는 것 같이 미련한 자는 그 미련한 것을 거듭 행하느니라
12네가 스스로 지혜롭게 여기는 자를 보느냐 그보다 미련한 자에게 오히려 희망이 있느니라
13게으른 자는 길에 사자가 있다 거리에 사자가 있다 하느니라
14문짝이 돌쩌귀를 따라서 도는 것같이 게으른 자는 침상에서 도느니라
15게으른 자는 그 손을 그릇에 넣고도 입으로 올리기를 괴로워하느니라
16게으른 자는 사리에 맞게 대답하는 사람 일곱보다 자기를 지혜롭게 여기느니라
17길로 지나가다가 자기와 상관이 없는 다툼을 간섭하는 자는 개의 귀를 잡는 자와 같으니라
18횃불을 던지며 화살을 쏘아서 사람을 죽이는 미친 사람이 있나니
19자기의 이웃을 속이고 말하기를 내가 희롱하였노라 하는 자도 그러하니라
20나무가 다하면 불이 꺼지고 말장이가 없어지면 다툼이 쉬느니라
21숯불 위에 숯을 더하는 것과 타는 불에 나무를 더하는 것 같이 다툼을 좋아하는 자는 시비를 일으키느니라
22남의 말하기를 좋아하는 자의 말은 별식과 같아서 뱃속 깊은 데로 내려가느니라
23온유한 입술에 악한 마음은 낮은 은을 입힌 토기니라
24원수는 입술로는 꾸미고 속으로는 속임을 품나니
25그 말이 좋을지라도 믿지 말 것은 그 마음에 일곱 가지 가증한 것이 있음이니라
26속임으로 그 미움을 감출지라도 그의 악이 회중 앞에 드러나리라
27함정을 파는 자는 그것에 빠질 것이요 돌을 굴리는 자는 도리어 그것에 치이리라
28거짓말 하는 자는 자기가 해한 자를 미워하고 아첨하는 입은 패망을 일으키느니라

1여호와께서 시온의 포로를 돌려 보내실 때에 우리는 꿈꾸는 것 같았도다
2그 때에 우리 입에는 웃음이 가득하고 우리 혀에는 찬양이 찼었도다 그 때에 뭇 나라 가운데에서 말하기를 여호와께서 그들을 위하여 큰 일을 행하셨다 하였도다
3여호와께서 우리를 위하여 큰 일을 행하셨으니 우리는 기쁘도다
4여호와여 우리의 포로를 남방 시내들 같이 돌려 보내소서

1Except Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.
2It is vain for you to rise up early, To take rest late, To eat the bread of toil; `For' so he giveth unto his beloved sleep.
3Lo, children are a heritage of Jehovah; `And' the fruit of the womb is `his' reward.
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth.

1여호와께서 집을 세우지 아니하시면 세우는 자의 수고가 헛되며 여호와께서 성을 지키지 아니하시면 파수꾼의 깨어 있음이 헛되도다
2너희가 일찍이 일어나고 늦게 누우며 수고의 떡을 먹음이 헛되도다 그러므로 여호와께서 그의 사랑하시는 자에게는 잠을 주시는도다

1여호와를 경외하며 그의 길을 걷는 자마다 복이 있도다
2네가 네 손이 수고한 대로 먹을 것이라 네가 복되고 형통하리로다
3네 질 안방에 있는 네 아내는 결실한 포도나무 같으며 네 식탁에 둘러 앉은 자식들은 어린 감람나무 같으리로다
4여호와를 경외하는 자는 이같이 복을 얻으리로다
5여호와께서 시온에서 네게 복을 주실지어다 너는 평생에 예루살렘의 번영을 보며

1이스라엘은 이제 말하기를 그들이 내가 어릴 때부터 여러 번 나를 괴롭혔도다
2그들이 내가 어릴 때부터 여러 번 나를 괴롭혔으나 나를 이기지 못하였도다
3밭 가는 자들이 내 등을 갈아 그 고랑을 길게 지었도다
4여호와께서는 의로우사 악인들의 줄을 끊으셨도다
5무릇 시온을 미워하는 자들은 수치를 당하여 물러갈지어다
6그들은 지붕의 풀과 같을지어다 그것은 자라기 전에 마르는 것이라
7이런 것은 베는 자의 손과 묶는 자의 품에 차지 아니하나니

1Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Jehovah.
2Lord, hear my voice: Let thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.
3If thou, Jehovah, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
4But there is forgiveness with thee, That thou mayest be feared.
5I wait for Jehovah, my soul doth wait, And in his word do I hope.
6My soul `waiteth' for the Lord More than watchmen `wait' for the morning; `Yea, more than' watchmen for the morning.
7O Israel, hope in Jehovah; For with Jehovah there is lovingkindness, And with him is plenteous redemption.

1여호와여 내가 깊은 곳에서 주께 부르짖었나이다
2주여 내 소리를 들으시며 나의 부르짖는 소리에 귀를 기울이소서
3여호와여 주께서 죄악을 지켜보실진대 주여 누가 서리이까
4그러나 사유하심이 주께 있음은 주를 경외하게 하심이니이다
5나 곧 내 영혼은 여호와를 기다리며 나는 주의 말씀을 바라는도다
